Machine Operator (Foundation Level)

We are looking to train someone to become an On Track Machine Operator. If you're dependable, safety-conscious, and ready to work in a dynamic environment, we want to hear from you.

Role Purpose

Ensure that all track, plant, and machine work is performed to a high standard, in full compliance with health and safety regulations and industry standards.  

Role Dynamic

This role reports to the Supervisor/Operator.  It involves working unsociable hours and weekends.  You must be physically capable of standing for extended periods, lifting heavy materials, and performing duties in varying weather conditions.

Your Tasks

Compliance

  • Ensure all allocated work complies with relevant Health & Safety regulations as well as Network Rail Standards.
  • Perform only those tasks for which you are trained and hold valid competencies
  • Ensure the machines or plant used have the correct certification
  • Adhere to RSUK Standard Operating Procedures.

Operational Delivery

  • Conduct pre-use inspections and routine maintenance checks on machinery to ensure safe operation.
  • Operate and monitor plant machinery and equipment.
  • Identify and report mechanical issues, malfunctions, or safety concerns to the supervisor. 
  • Record operational data such as run times and downtime. 
  • Adhere to plant and machine safety policies, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Support the maintenance activities by performing basic maintenance and cleaning as per the maintenance schedule.
  • Engage in tasks outside the immediate scope of your role to broaden your experience and support evolving business needs.

  • Represent the company professionally and build strong working relationships with clients and contractors.

Key Experience

  • Valid full UK driving licence - Essential
  • Right to work in the UK - Essential
  • PTS - desirable
  • CSCS - desirable
